As Basis Technologies grew past 850 employees across multiple locations and departments, maintaining meaningful connection became harder. Teams were moving fast, but relationships were increasingly shaped by org charts and workflows rather than natural interaction.
Basis launched Basis Blend, a company-wide RandomCoffee program pairing employees for bi-weekly conversations. The goal was straightforward: give people regular opportunities to meet colleagues they wouldn’t normally interact with.
Encouraged by early traction, Basis expanded the approach with Basis Neighborhood Networks—city-based programs designed to strengthen local connections while reinforcing a shared company culture.
Results in just three months:
• 245 RandomCoffee conversations
• Connections formed across teams, departments, and locations
• Consistently positive employee feedback
“RandomCoffee is a game changer. Human connection is at the heart of company culture, and having a structure in place to foster more of it is a no-brainer.”
Erik Chellberg, Vice President, Paid Social, Basis Technologies
Together, these programs gave Basis a simple but effective way to:
• Break down silos during rapid growth
• Support connection across both global and local contexts
• Reinforce a culture built on real human relationships
By keeping connection lightweight and repeatable, Basis turned a scaling challenge into a sustainable cultural advantage.
